You have a little private party when your child is tall enough to stand up to pee.
It happened with no direction or fanfare on my part, I don't know about Kevin. It was kind of like the change in seasons when your kid puts on last years pants (you know the ones that had to be cuffed and rolled at the waist) and they are up to his shins! Suddenly Patrick is tall enough to pee standing up (tip-toes and step stools not required)!
I am particularly thankful for this little milestone when we are out in the germy public bathrooms. Instead of screaming and shrieking about "don't touch that" and "keep your hands off that thing". He is in and out without having to touch much of anything. WOOHOO!
On a related note, as I am thinking about another boy entering the potty training stage, I am starting a tiny toilet fund. It is dedicated to all of the moms out there with little kids who cannot comfortably sit on a public toilet. Money will pay for Family Bathrooms with kid sized toilets. This fund will also pay for kid sized sinks. Patrick can't reach a lot of the sinks in public restrooms and the soap is almost always out of reach. I find it particularly annoying that kid-oriented places (I'm thinking of Chuck E. Cheese) are usually the worst offenders. On the plus side, some retailers seem to be catching a clue. Many of the new Targets have a Family Bathroom. Fashion Fair has a kid-friendly bathrooms in the new area. IKEA apparently has rocking kid-friendly bathrooms. Tiny Toilets should be a requirement for retail construction. Who's with me?

I think that goes in the "A girl can dream can't she" file.
